What is epoxy paint?

Epoxy is a binder used in paint, which is incredibly strong and thus a popular choice for painting floors. The advantage is that you achieve a harder curing with epoxy, which makes the paint incredibly strong. This type of paint is particularly ideal on surfaces where the surface suffers from heavy load and wear. This is also an advantage in the home, as it makes it easier to clean and maintain.

Epoxy is typically used in garages, kitchens, basements and workshops. Epoxy also gives a unique, industrial look that can last for many years. This trend is seen in more and more Scandinavian homes, where epoxy coatings are very popular.

How to apply epoxy paint

  1. Prepare the floor for epoxy

Make sure the floor is cleaned well before you start. This can be done with EFAdeck ® Grundrens. When you wash the floor, it must be with completely clean water. And then, you must remember that the floor must be completely dry before starting the next step. - If the floor is uneven, these must be remedied - possibly by matt sanding, so that the floor is entirely susceptible to paint adhesion.

  2. The hardener is mixed with EFAdeck

ATTENTION! With floating concrete, you have to go over it three times. First application 50% water, the second 25% and the last application undiluted.

Since this is a 2-component epoxy paint, which consists of hardener - in addition to EFAdeck ® H20 Heavy Epoxy, these must first of all be mixed.

Here, all the hardener must go into the bucket with EFAdeck. Scrape out all the hardener with the included cardboard scraper. The hardener

and EFAdeck must then be thoroughly mixed. Stir thoroughly for at least 3 minutes. Possibly with a drill with a beater.

  3. The actual application of the paint

The epoxy paint itself is applied with a brush or paint roller. After this, the floor must dry for at least 4 hours - and a maximum of 24 hours - before the second layer is applied. After the last layer, approximately two days must pass before the floor can be walked on. However, the paint is only fully cured after a week.

Other good tips for applying epoxy

When applying the paint, you must ensure that the room temperature is at least 15 degrees and the humidity must be a maximum of 85% and a minimum of 10%.

With epoxy paint, you must avoid overlapping when applying - you will get the most excellent result without shade differences.

If it is an untreated concrete floor, you must add approx. 10% water, as this will give better penetration and adhesion.

Can I paint with epoxy paint?

The short answer is yes. It does not require any course, as many people believe, to paint with epoxy paint. As a private person, you are welcome to paint with epoxy, and you can therefore turn it into a project. However, there are many courses for professionals on applying epoxy paint.

However, you must pay attention to the procedure, as epoxy differs from traditional paints. Typically, this is a 2-component epoxy paint, which requires adding a hardener in just the right amounts. There is also a workspace that you have to pay attention to, as the paint hardens quickly and hard.

Does it take a mask and gloves to paint with epoxy?

No, this is not necessary if you work with water-based epoxy paints. However, we still recommend using essential protective equipment, such as gloves, a mask and glasses. It is also recommended that you provide good ventilation in the room, as this helps to remove unpleasant odours along the way.

Epoxy paint colours, gloss and pieces

Epoxy paint is typically produced in several different colours. Our H2O Heavy Epoxy is made in grey, black and white. This epoxy paint has a glossy and unsurpassed strength on the surface. It is recommended for areas with heavy traffic, where a lot of furniture, etc., is moved around.
